Dr. Lara Dowland is the chairperson for the Biotechnology/Biomanufacturing program at Mount Wachusett Community College in Devens, MA. Lara received her Ph.D. from West Virginia University and did her postdoctoral fellowship at Harvard Medical School. She spent several years working for a life sciences company Keene, NH in the Research and Development group. In 2007, MWCC started the new Biotechnology/Biomanufacturing program and hired Lara as the program chair and assistant professor. The program offers an associate’s in science, and a one-year certificate. She has developed and taught numerous biotechnology courses with the support from the Northeast Biomanufucturing Center and Collaborative and local industry partners like Bristol Myers Squibb, Bionostics, Inc. and New England Peptide. MWCC’s program has been supported by a Community-Based Job Training grant from the Department of Labor.
